Chickens in the City and Coop Building

Recently, we got two baby chicks. Their names are Honey and Coco! Honey is a Leghorn and Coco is a Golden Wyandotte. Originally we were told that Honey was an Americana but turns out no!!!!

Coco is the brown one and Honey is the yellow.
Here they are now:

We have finally finished building their coop and decided that we were going to make it out of re-purposed materials and spend the least amount of money that we could!! I researched coops on the internet and found some made from pallets. We started collecting pallets and slowly decided how we wanted to the coop to look. We knew that we wanted a nesting box big enough for 4, a swing and a pole for roosting, and a space to walk around in. We took apart the pallets and made the nesting area complete with door first.

I wanted easy access to get the eggs and to sweep the area clean! What do you think?? We decided that the nesting box would be a little over 18 inches wide and covered with a larger roof and closed in sides. It has a ladder inside that they can use to walk up. I shred up paper for bedding and put it in the nesting area.

We made the total coop size 52 inches wide and 7 ft long. They love it. We used pallets, rope, a dowel rod and wood in our garage, a piece of plywood from my brother, and hardware cloth from our friends. We had plenty of concrete pavers for the floor of the coop too. The only thing we had to buy was hardware cloth, locks, and hinges for a total of $26!!!

The chicks are really enjoying there "new" house! They love to run around the yard and forage. They eat a ton of grass:)

Homemade Confetti Cake

Homemade Confetti Cake

Found this recipe on Pinterest today and it is pretty tasty!
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/23362491792414211/

It was very easy to make and the directions were easy to follow. Next time, I will double the recipe though because it was for 12 cupcakes and I made a cake but it was a single layer. The icing is super yummy.  I didn't have my own heavy cream so I had to make some.... EEK! It was a little scary but it worked.  I think this icing is by far one of my favorites. Its a butter-cream but not heavy like the usual. Overall, I really love the recipe so I will be making it again and in different versions.

Here's the link for the heavy cream : http://www.pinterest.com/pin/23362491792417889/

Let me know if you try it! Good Luck :)

This was a lot of fun for them. They loved looking for certain shapes and sizes.  We are also gonna make walking sticks out of some bamboo from Grandma.

Supplies needed:
Sticks!!
Acrylic paints
Imagination
Washi Tape

They painted and painted! I loved all of their hard work. They are very proud!

Look how patriotic their slingshots are!! They did it all on their own :) I love all the metallic and glitter paints they chose. Its fun to have such girly girls! Tomorrow we will put those slingshots to use.

Check back tomorrow to see our next adventure!

NO BUMMER SUMMER: Birdfeeder

Today we decided to make the bird feeders. Originally we were going to use pine cones but surprisingly couldn't find any! So we opted for toilet paper rolls instead.

Supplies:
Toilet paper roll
peanut butter
birdseed
fishing line

Just spread the peanut butter on the roll and roll it in bird seed! Then slip some fishing line through and knot it. We hung ours in the tree out front so hopefully we will see some cool birds. Let me know how yours works out and if you could find some pine cones! hahaha

Check back with us tomorrow and see what our next adventure is!!

NO BUMMER SUMMER: Hula Hoop Fort

Today we made the Hula Hoop Fort. This project was way too easy to build!! Who doesn't have an old shower curtain and a hula hoop laying around?!

Supplies needed:
Shower Curtain
Hula Hoop
Shower curtain rings
Twine or rope

Pinterest Link: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/23362491792182957/

We are gonna hang our fort in the back yard tomorrow because we needed Daddy's help. I told the girls to use the bent hula hoop because this could be its new purpose and new life:) We had an old shower curtain from before and the bent hula hoop but we didn't have the rings...  A quick trip to the Goodwill solved that problem! (for .99)

Poor bent hula hoop has seen better days but now it will live on! The girls had a ton of ideas for this "fort". It is gonna be Daddy's bed because he snores (ha!) its going to be a dressing room for their fashion shows and it will be a hideout in their play area in the backyard. This project cost a total of .99!!!! And will supply tons of fun for these imaginative little ladies. I'm sure we will make another one soon so they can both have one!

Check back in tomorrow to see what we have going on!

NO BUMMER SUMMER: Splash Bombs!

Today we made the Splash Bombs!! I saw the idea a long time ago on Pinterest. You can make them to play in the hot summer or you can make them, dip em in paint and throw at poster boards or a big sheet to create one of a kind artwork!! They are super easy and cheap and tons of fun!

Supplies:
Sponges (no scrubbers)
fishing line or twine
scissors

You can buy 2 packs of sponges at the Dollar Tree. We bought 8 packs (they bought half and I bought half). You cut them into quarters and then tie them off with fishing line or twine. Do it tight so they don't come loose from all the throwing!

Here's what they look like when done:

Let the splash bombing begin! They loved this :)

Here's a couple action shots for ya!

Overall they really enjoyed this activity! The next challenge will be the painting bombs.. Not sure if I'm ready for that yet!

Check back tomorrow to see what we get into!

NO BUMMER SUMMER: Seashell Necklaces

Today was seashell necklace day! The girls really enjoyed this one because they have been collecting shells for awhile now. We used shells with holes in them mostly but Lorelei's big piece didn't have a hole so Daddy drilled one in for her.

Supplies:
 Lots of acrylic paints
Yarn
Twine
Fishing Line
Beads (all kinds)
Rhinestones (all sizes)

They painted and decorated the shells first. And then I helped them string them up! They had fun putting on the beads and they each put their nicknames on them. You can see "Naney" and "Lolo" if you look closely.

They were super tired by the end of this project! Maybe all the energy it takes to be a jewelry designer tuckered them out... They have a few more shells left to turn into masterpieces when they're ready!

Overall this was fun one! I'm sure we will be making jewelry for a few more days.

Check back tomorrow to see whats next!

Lundi

P.S Today is me and the hubby's boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary! Its been 15 years since we coupled up :)

NO BUMMER SUMMER: Burning Dandelions

Our next No Bummer Summer adventure was to burn a dandelion top. The girls thought this one was really cool and we searched all over for these little puffs!

Here is the pinterest link: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/23362491792182949/

We found some and went right to trying to see this beautiful rainbow fire it is supposed to give. Those little suckers burn so quick you cant even tell what color it is! We were all disappointed...

Sad little burnt Dandelions.... So we checked off burn a dandelion top and started our jar of dandelion tops!!! We got about 10 today and will continue to be on our quest to fill the jar. I may have picked too big of a jar!! haha Thats what Lorelei said anyway :)

Thanks for checking in on our daily adventures! Check back tomorrow to see what we do!

NO BUMMER SUMMER!

Recently my girls watched "Judy Moody and the not so Bummer Summer" movie. It was very cute and has inspired them to create a list of fun activities to do each day!

Look how excited they are! Its so cute:) Here is what is on the list so far:
1. Make cork boats and race them.
2. Paint rocks for tic tac toe game
3. Make pine cone bird feeders
4. Burn Dandelions(supposed to be really colorful while on fire.)
5. Fill a whole jar with dandelion tops (to give away when someone needs a wish or smile)
6. Make a hula hoop fort.
7. Paint a word canvas
8.  Make tools and wands out of sticks.
9. Make seashell necklaces

When they come up with more ideas they will add them and we will expand the list. As we complete a dare/project we will check it off. Today we made the cork boats.

Next up was the race! We filmed a practice run.

They had so much fun with this project! I found the idea on Pinterest and we changed it a little. Are you following me on Pinterest? If not please do! You can see the board for the NO BUMMER SUMMER too.

Makeup and Workout of the day!

Todays look was MAC baby! I used Nylon on my lid and Mythology in my outer corner and crease. I put the brown from my wet n wild palette in my corner and over my eyeliner to darken it up. I used the light cream WNW color on my browbone. I also used my Chella highlighter on my brownbone. It is a chubby highlight crayon and it blends very easily. Today was a pretty look and I wish I could have got a good picture of it!!

My workout was legs:

No clean and press because of my shoulder!
Single leg squats- 4 sets of 15
Lunges-100
Steps ups- 4 sets of 15
Leg Abductor 40lbs 4 sets of 15

Oh man, I just realized I didnt do calf raises!!!!! I guess I will do them tommorow.
